The James P Tutino Memorial Scholarship Fund was created by the Tutino family in order to honor and memorialize James (Jim). Jim was killed on January 26, 2005 when a distraught man, thought to be suicidal, positioned his SUV on the Metrolink train tracks in Glendale CA resulting in a train derailment that ultimately took the life of 11 innocent people riding the train that morning. Jim, who was on his way to work as a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy, was one of the passengers. In addition to his 23 years of service as a deputy, Jim had also been the assistant varsity football coach at Simi Valley High School for the previous five years. During his time as coach he performed numerous acts of kindness and was known for sharing his positive energy with the team and the other coaches. He will be remembered as someone whose goals in life were to live with passion and give to others with compassion and a generous heart.
